The Niagara Health System (NHS) is Ontario’s largest hospital amalgamation comprised of seven acute-care hospital sites serving 411,000 residents across the 12 municipalities making up the Regional Municipality of Niagara.

The NHS consists of four large community hospitals -- Greater Niagara General Site in Niagara Falls, St. Catharines General Site, Welland Hospital Site and the Ontario Street Site (formerly known as Hotel Dieu Health Sciences Hospital, Niagara, in St. Catharines) -- and three small hospitals -- Douglas Memorial Hospital Site in Fort Erie, Niagara-on-the-Lake Hospital Site, and Port Colborne General Site.

Hospital:          - 181 acute beds, 16 mental health,  23 palliative care/oncology

-          Outpatient Oncology Clinic

-          provincial approval received for construction of new hospital and cancer centre, featuring cardiac catheterization and tertiary mental health unit, slated for completion in 2010-11.

-On Staff:  Gastroenterology (3), Neurology (5), Rheumatology (3),

Nephrology (5), Oncology

The practice:               - General Internal Medicine with the opportunity to practice sub-specialty

-all members participate in General Internal Medicine call

Call:                            - 1 in 12

Department:                -Cardiologists read Echocardiography

Ancillary Staff:                        - excellent, fully trained nursing and clinic staff

-5 General Surgeons, 5 Urologists, 6 ObGyns, 6 Orthopaedic Surgeons

-8 Radiologists - well equipped Imaging Department, including MRI, CT, Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine, Mammography, Bone Mineral Densitometry

Tertiary Care:             - Hamilton Health Sciences Centre- 1 hour away

Qualifications Req’d:  - FRCP(C)

-          eligibility for Ontario licence and billing number

-          Sub-specialty interest in RESPIROLOGY, Geriatrics/Infectious Diseases would be an asset
