The Niagara Health System came into being early in 2000, as a result of directions from the Health Services Restructuring Commission to amalgamate eight hospitals in the Region. A single board and administrative structure has been formed.

We are currently seeking Psychiatrists for the following sites:

• St. Catharines
• Welland

St. Catharines General Site

Community:

• St. Catharines - Catchment population - 155,000

Hospital:

• 171 Acute beds, 16 Mental Health Bed, 36 Chronic Beds
• By 2004, site will house 385 inpatient beds and become home to Cancer Care Ontario's Niagara Regional Cancer Treatment Centre

Current Group:

• 4 Adult Psychiatrists

The Practice:

• All practice General Psychiatry
• Fee-for-service

Call:

• 1 in 4 - take one feel week at a time

Department:

• General Psychiatry - primarily adult
• Day Treatment and Outreach Programs
• Child and Adolescent Psychiatry available in community
• 7-10 day patients

Ancillary Staff:

• Excellent, fully trained nursing and clinic staff
• 5 General Surgeons, 5 Urologists, 6 ObGyns, 10 General Internists, 6 Orthopaedic Surgeons
• 7 Radiologists - well equipped Imaging Department, including Regional MRI, CT, Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine, Mammography, Bone Mineral Densitometry

Tertiary Care:

• Longer term patients to Hamilton/Senior Homes, etc.

• FRCP(C)
• Eligibility for Ontario license and billing number

Community:

• Welland - Catchment population - 70,000

Hospital:

• 110 Acute Beds, 16 Mental Health, 15 Nephrology, 75 Complex Continuing Care, 75 Long Term Care. 40 Interim Long Term Care
• New Emergency department and renovated Ambulatory Care Centre
• New Satellite Hemodialysis Unit with 15 stations

• Geriatric service - clinic in Port Colborne, staffed from Hamilton group

Ancillary Staff:

• Crisis workers see patients in Emergency
• 3 ObGyns, 5 General Surgeons, 4 General Internists
• 3 Radiologists - well equipped Imaging Department, including CT
• Urology, Orthopaedics, Ophthalmology, Otolaryngology
