Our Opportunity:
The RQHR invites applications for the position of Anatomical, Surgical and Hemato- Pathologists. Special interest in cytopathology would be an asset. The Department of Laboratory Medicine has a complement of 16 laboratory physicians providing primary services to patients in our Health Region and tertiary services to patients in southern Saskatchewan. The Region has a very active cytology program, including flow cytometry and FNAB clinic, and participates in the provincial cytology training program. The successful candidate will perform surgical pathology and cytology services in addition to more specialized services aligned with the applicant’s area of special training or experience.

Description of General Pathology Services at Regina General Hospital and Pasqua Hospital:
1. Pathology Services
· Appropriate analysis of surgical specimens, intraoperative surgical pathology consultations and prompt reporting of results.
· Gross description, tissue sampling and microscopic examination of surgical specimens.
· Taking photographs of specimens when indicated.
· Participation in after-hours call coverage for General Pathology.
2. Medical Supervision
· Advising re professional standards and the development of policies in accordance with the current standards of care in General Pathology.
· Participating in laboratory and regional committees as requested by the Department Head.
3. Quality Assurance
· Being knowledgeable of the current standards set by Professional Associations and Accrediting Agencies in the area of General Pathology.
· Complying with requirements for accreditation of the General Pathology Service.
4. Education
· Participating in internal and external CME activities to maintain personal competence. This will include registration and satisfactory performance in the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Maintenance of Competence Program.
· Participating in intra and extra-departmental educational activities for laboratory and hospital staff.
· Participating in teaching and training of undergraduate and postgraduate medical students doing mandatory or elective rotations in the area of General Pathology.
Qualifications:
The candidate will hold certification or be eligible for certification from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and be eligible for a license to practice in Saskatchewan. In accordance with immigration requirements, preference will be given to Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada.
