Our Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Opportunity:
An opportunity exists to engage in a diverse and high quality physical medicine and rehabilitation practice within our region. The successful candidate will provide service to patients in a number of rehabilitation programs of the Regina Qu’Appelle Health Region and Southern Saskatchewan along with our two full-time Rehabilitation Specialists, with whom call would be shared.
A strong working relationship between physiatrists, nursing, social work and therapy staff is essential to the PM&R program. Three interconnected communities are involved in the service: the acute care staff, especially on the Neurosciences Unit at 5A in the Regina General Hospital, the inpatient rehabilitation staff at unit 3-2 at Wascana and the outpatient nursing, therapy, and social work staff as well as the office assistant staff and scheduling staff. Mutual feedback and problem solving is required and is a standard of quality that is important to the region.
Prosthetic and orthotic services are available on site as well as a full spectrum of other rehabilitation professionals including occupational therapy, physiotherapy, speech pathology and pathology.
The Wascana Rehabilitation Center in Regina is home to the following programs:
· The Adult Rehabilitation Program provides services to adults with diagnosis of stroke, multiple sclerosis, long-term neurological illnesses, trauma, amputations, arthritis and post-surgical orthopedic cases.
· The Children’s Program provides assessment and management of children with developmental delays, physical disabilities and multiple disabilities.
· The Functional Rehabilitation Program provides interdisciplinary assessment and treatment program to adults with musculoskeletal injuries.
Physiatry Services include the following:
a) Providing consultation, arranging for the admission and/or disposition of patients/clients who may require physiatry services and/or admission to the Wascana Rehabilitation Centre;
b) Participation in prosthetics clinics, outpatient clinics, inpatient care and in the provision of EMG services
c) Participating in multi-disciplinary rounds of the Section of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation;
d) Providing medical direction as required to nurses, therapists, residents and other members of the health care team as required in the management of patients/clients;
e) Attending and participating in departmental and sectional meetings, morbidity and mortality meetings, peer and/or chart reviews, and any departmental, sectional and regional quality improvement and utilization initiatives.

Qualifications:
Successful candidates will hold certification, or be eligible for certification from, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and be eligible for a license to practice in Saskatchewan. A relocation package (with a return for service commitment) is available for this position.
